One of the largest subsets of Jeffrey Hewitt’s photographic catalogue, the images in his 9/11 series document the tragic attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and offers a glimpse into the psyche of the artist. Beginning with the haunting images of smoke escaping from the Twin Towers, the artist focuses heavily on the conversations had amongst community members in New York City, specifically in the form of public art. The life span and resilience of a Union Square “shrine” to those lost in the attacks, becomes a metaphor in this series for the solidarity and union of New Yorkers in their grief and contemplation. The 9/11 series has shown in institutions such as the Hampshire College Library.
